The Transmigration Of Stinging Souls Returning To Roost In Halcyon
The Transmigration Of Stinging Souls Returning To Roost In Halcyon is my version of reincarnation. Each one of these portraits and sculptures represent a human that had heartbreak and difficulty in life, health, and circumstances. Some were not liked and some did not like themselves. All return in the form of things they loved or had a passion for, but all returning transformed and healed. Each portrait has a biography - their life as a human and how they returned as a new being in afterlife.
Blonddy Raifmoberson
Transmigration: from a woman to a shell
Lived: 1901-1990
Died: Natural Causes
From: Casa Grande, Arizona
Blonddy was an elementary school teacher. She had a very quiet and squeaky voice and her students never paid attention in class. The children threw spitballs, passed notes and talked over Blonddy or “Peep” as the children called her. Blonddy died of natural causes in her modest home. Her hope was to retire by the sea, but she never made enough money to move. Blonddy continued teaching well into her 80s but she never garnered much joy or respect from her profession. Blonddy transmigrated into a beautiful shell and landed on The Gulf coast of Sanibel Island to live her days lazing on a beach with other like-minded individuals.

Dody Jacques Arcand
Transmigration: from man to bracket fungus
Lived: 1967-2001
Died: Murder
From: Quebec, Canada
Dody lived in Quebec Canada. As a child, Dody was a restless character - he could never be still. Luckily, Dody’s grandpa was a Mycologist. The two would go mushrooming every weekend and this calmed Dody down and gave him focus. As an adult, Dody worked as a professor at Cégep de Sainte-Foy, where he taught Science. He was an uneasy teacher and was very impatient and curt with his students. This attitude was a result of a bad marriage and no home cooked meals. Dody was married to Marianne. She was mean as a snake and refused to cook dinner or clean. The love of her life had died and so she settled for Dody whom she took out her anger on constantly. One day after class Marianne waited behind a tree with a knife and that was the end of professor Arcand. Marianne went to prison for the rest of her days and Dody returned as the grand Bracket Fungus and lived in the St. Lawrence Lowlands where he was happy and could spend time with his beloved grandpa who had become a spectacular Sugar Maple.

Arturo Guadbendino
Transmigration: from a man to a heart
Lived: 1962-2011
Died: Lightning Strike
From: Los Angeles, California
Arturo was a self-centered writer, chasing fame. He was always looking for the next big opportunity. Writing screenplays was his specialty, or so he thought. Arturo was very confident about his abilities. Let's just say he had more than a healthy ego about his work. The truth of the matter was, his writing was so-so. One could even say mediocre, but he kept churning out more dreck. Arturo was selfish and self-absorbed. When dating, he would sit over a meal and talk about himself and not ask one question of his dining companion. He never called his ailing mother except on holidays and only walked his dog Mickey on weekends. One evening in April, Arturo was killed by a freak lightning strike while walking Mickey. Arturo transmigrated as a heart. In life, Arturo was selfish. Now he felt open, giving and ready to assist others. He became a wonderful problem solver and would be the first to greet the other transmigrated beings. In his transmigrated life, Arturo reflected that if only he had been this benevolent as a man, life would have not been so hard.

Swain Augustus Fletcher
Transmigration: from a man to lungs
Lived: 1812-1868
Died: Pierced Lung
From: Perth, Scotland
Swain was a master wigmaker. People would come from miles around to have a custom wig made. Swain would meet with aristocrats, judges, lords and ladies alike. He was very good at his craft, however he did not have a patient manner with his customers and would often hide in the back and send out one of his apprentices for consultation. In other words, Swain was a true temperamental artist. Swain always sent his best apprentice out to meet his clients. His name was Colin Braeburn, an astute student and the most adept at making Perukes. Colin would be given free rein to complete a wig. It turns out that Swain had grew tired of wig making and sat in his chair in the back smoking cigars and barking orders to his assistants. He left the hard work to Colin and then took all the credit. Colin became the silent genius behind all the work and became increasingly jealous and resentful of Swain. On a Friday night just after closing, Swain, cigar in mouth lay snoring in his office chair. Colin came up on him and stabbed him through the lung with a 10 inch hairpin. Swain was found with the ruby encased hairpin in his left lung. Swain transmigrated into a healthy pair of lungs. In life, he used to cough constantly because of the cigar smoking. Now he felt invigorated and each breath was deep and clear. Swain had a new lease on life (or life after). He became impassioned with art again and painted beautiful paintings with fresh perspective.

Howard Albrekt
Transmigration: from a man to the season Winter
Lived: 1918-1967
Died: Head Injury From A Baseball
From: Hot Springs, Arkansas
Howard Albrekt was a man on the move, a traveling salesman of vacuum cleaners, feather dusters, shoe polish and diet pills. Over the years, Howard sold many products door to door and had many doors slammed in his face. It was a difficult profession and not good for his home life. Howard had three wives; one died, one left him for another man, and the last one took him for all the money he had. Life was not rosy for a travelling salesman especially since he had to wear cheap, itchy wool suits in the summer. Howard longed for a seersucker suit, air conditioning in his car or the chill of the winter months. Howard loved baseball and had an opportunity to go to a game or two. Sadly, he met his demise at a game where the baseball made contact with his head, killing him at the stadium. Howard transmigrated to the season Winter, the constant cool feeling was indescribable and instead of a suit Howard wore a green dashiki which was light and comfortable. As Winter, Howard's demeanor changed. He went from a bitter lothario of housewives to a calm, kind and patient season.

Judge Lyle Frederick Needles
Transmigration: from man to chair
Lived: 1942 -1982
Died: Heart Attack
From: Portland Oregon
Lyle Needles was a finicky boy. His parents were social workers and Lyle would go along on visits to the homes of potentially unfit parents. Joan and Richard Needles would do the initial evaluations and make the decisions as to whether the child was in a dangerous situation at home. Joan and Richard felt like these would be good lessons for Lyle to learn and teach him right from wrong. In some respects, this was a good life education but on the other hand, Lyle had no playtime, no friends and he witnessed many intense and ugly situations. As an adult, Lyle studied, became a lawyer and eventually became a Supreme Court judge. He was a very stubborn judge, tough and by the book. Judge Needles was also a sybaritic man, he loved food and comfort. At night he would put his feet up and eat heavy pasta dishes with rich sauce, pork belly, liver, roasted lamb with whipped potatoes, eggs benedict, cheese soufflé, and buttered rolls. In other words, rich food. The Judge lived alone and did not care much about his looks, his solace was food which got the best of him. The judge died in his bed of a heart attack. He was found the next morning surrounded by a half-eaten chocolate cake. The judge returned as his favorite chair in the judge's chambers. This made Lyle very happy. He could hear all the goings on of the trials, hear other judges’ real opinions and just listen in supreme comfort. He had not only found relaxation, he was relaxation.

Gala, Linnie, Audra and Rubie Swain
Transmigration: from girls to birds
Lived: 1940-1954, 1942-1954, 1944-1954
Died: Car Crash
From: Boone, North Carolina
The girls lived an impoverished life far away from town so that the twins, Ruby and Audra, would not be teased and taunted. The girl's mother died when they were very young and their father earned his living as a carpenter. Life was poor and tough. The girls loved birds and made wings out of the fallen leaves and would run full speed around the yard pretending to fly. Their father would teach the girls carpentry skills so they could have a better future. He was also very concerned about the girls staying warm. As they went out each day, he would yell, "don't forget your coats”. The sisters died instantly in a head-on car crash. They had gone on a joy ride with the neighbor kid, Joe Fleehoff. A twelve year old driving his daddy's beat up Ford pickup truck. The brakes were bad and Joe could barely see over the steering wheel. They were hit and died instantly when hit by a logging truck. When the sisters transmigrated, they arrived wearing fine leather tunics and regal, warm white capes with images of carpenter hammers on the back of each - an homage to their dear father. They landed on Guemes Island and now spend their days looking for agates and visiting with other species of birds.
